Last weekend in the life of the AC San Lorenzo family |
Year after year, people whose lives have been touched by the
Assumption make the journey back home, either on August 14 for the
traditional Assumption Vigil or on August 15, to celebrate the
Eucharist on the day of the Solemnity of the Assumption.
In addition to being an occasion for reconnecting with the Lord, our
dear Mother and each other, this year’s festivities were marked by many
members of the Assumption family affirming their ‘Yes!’ to God’s call.
During the evening Mass for alumnae and friends on August 15, the
second batch of Assumption teachers, parents and friends took their
vows to be part of the Community of the Lay Assumption (CLAY)—a growing
group of men and women around the world who have chosen to adopt the
aspects of the prayer and community life of the Religious of the
Assumption that are applicable to the lay context. They were
officially welcomed into CLAY by Provincial Superior Sr. Maria Josefina
“Marjo” Matias, ra and Mrs. Baby Goyena-Herrera, Lay Representative of
the Philippine Province of the Religious of the Assumption.

Another Assumption San Lorenzo teacher took his commitment a step
further: Mr. Blair Nuyda, who used to be an English teacher and
Teacher-in-Charge in the Basic Education Department, made his first
vows in the Order of the Augustinians of the Assumption, the religious
order founded by Fr. Emmanuel D’Alzon, St. Marie Eugenie’s lifelong
friend and collaborator. The ceremony took place before noon in the
chapel of Assumpta Tech High School in San Simon, Pampanga.
In the Higher Education Department, the new officers of the
Assumption College Parents Council were sworn in by College Dean Sr.
Anna Carmela Pesongco, ra during the final noontime Novena Mass in the
main chapel.
Throughout the occasion, fervent prayers were offered for the
complete healing of Riza Vinzon who is undergoing chemotherapy.
The community offered moments of silence in prayer for the eternal
repose of recently departed alumna, Mrs. Kennelly Lacia-Binay and for
the first anniversary of the passing of high school student Zulayka
Rivera.
