Assumption College Welcomes Sr. Anna Carmela Pesongco R.A. as New President

Exciting times are ahead for Assumption College as another dedicated educator assumes leadership of the country’s pioneering progressive school for women. The institution has appointed Sr. Anna Carmela Pesongco of the Religious of the Assumption (R.A.) as the 8th president, replacing Sr. Mary Gertrude Borres R.A. who held the position for five years. Sr. Anna is expected to be a strong force in upholding the Assumption education philosophy ― academic excellence, values formation and social responsibility.

In the Assumption community, Sr. Anna is known as a restructuring leader.  She has played a huge role in the holistic development and transformation efforts of the various campuses.

She facilitated fora and lectures for teachers, students and parents and administered several outreach programs. She also created effective work force norms and spearheaded different interactive activities to strengthen the Assumption community.

Prior to her new appointment, Sr. Anna served as the dean for the Assumption San Lorenzo, Makati Campus.  She has a doctorate degree in Education, major in Educational Management. She received the Most Outstanding Female Private School Principal award given by the Department of Education in 2001. She served as principal for the Antipolo campus from 1989 to 1994 and became principal of Assumption Iloilo from 1995 to 2000.

Bringing with her 26 years of teaching experience, Sr. Anna accepted the five-year post in rites held recently at the Our Lady of the Assumption Chapel in San Lorenzo, Makati, celebrated by Msgr. Joemarie Delgado, Chaplain of the Assumption Iloilo community, and Fr. Edwin Soliva, SDB Chaplain of the Assumption San Lorenzo community. She took her oath under Sr. Ma. Josefina Matias R.A., Assumption College’s provincial superior.

In her inaugural address, Sr. Anna Carmela challenged her team, saying:

As we explore new modes of delivering educational programs and services,
let us be daring and courageous  in choosing strategies  that favor partnership,  collaboration and networking;
daring in  seizing  opportunities  that   affirm solidarity and sharing ,
an audacious education that promotes  quality and equity as well as aiming at achieving higher levels of excellence and service.
Character  formation in the Assumption  is forging  character  capable of making a faith response –“to believe that another world is possible”

Let us continue to  explore   areas  where transformation can happen-
in the complex reality where our students come from,
in the  transition  stage  of  our country,
in  the tensions  and hopes  of  a  global  community.
